The opportunity

A consumer-privacy company is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to work directly with its founders on product and technical direction. The product hunts down people's personal information wherever data brokers have listed it, and gets it taken down — continuously, for individuals and for businesses.

The team is fully remote and headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. This particular opening is for candidates based in Latin America.

The shape of the work

This is a backend role at heart: Python and Django, with occasional light frontend work where it makes sense. You own features from first line to last, including the unglamorous stretch where you make sure the thing still behaves in production a week after release.

The Django codebase powers both the consumer-facing dashboard and the business platform. In your first few months expect a blend of:

  • New features for the APIs behind the customer dashboard and reporting.
  • Performance and reliability work across the asynchronous task pipelines.
  • Integrations with outside services — payment processing and identity or single-sign-on providers.
  • Code review in both directions, on a compact backend team made up of other senior engineers.

There is no scripted thirty-, sixty-, ninety-day plan, because that is never how it really unfolds. You would be picking up genuine work in week one.

Required

  • Six or more years building production web applications.
  • Three or more years working in Python and Django.
  • A working command of the fundamentals: data structures, concurrency, SQL, and system design.
  • Strong written communication, and comfort collaborating asynchronously across time zones.
  • Self-direction, and the follow-through to finish what you start.

Strong plus

  • Django REST Framework, or django-ninja.
  • Distributed task queues and message brokers running in production.
  • PostgreSQL tuning and query analysis.
  • Kubernetes and AWS.
  • Integrations with payment platforms, identity providers, or other third-party APIs.
  • Lightweight hypermedia frontend libraries, React, or both.
  • A background in consumer privacy or a neighbouring field.

Engineers here are expected to use AI coding assistants as an ordinary part of the working day. If you have put real effort into getting genuine value out of those tools, that counts.

What actually matters here

Two things outrank any single item on the skills list.

Ownership. If your feature ships and then breaks in production, you are the one digging in. If a specification is ambiguous, you ask. If something looks wrong in a colleague's pull request, you say so rather than waiting for someone else to.

Writing. Async-first means most coordination happens in pull request descriptions, chat threads, and tickets. They want people who write clearly — and who also recognise the moment to abandon the thread and just take a fifteen-minute call.

Location and hours

Open to candidates based in Latin America. Working hours that overlap the US time zones are strongly preferred, because there is a fair amount of real-time collaboration.

Equal opportunity

The company values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership of an employee organisation, retaliation, parental status, military service, or any other non-merit factor.
